Tim Cook says Apple Music Hall is a commitment to live performance

Tim Cook has described Apple Music Hall in London as a deliberate commitment to live performance, saying the new venue reflects Apple’s belief in the importance of artists performing in front of an audience.

Speaking in an interview with The Independent, Cook praised the newly opened space inside Battersea Power Station, pointing to its design, construction, technology and Spatial Audio capabilities.

Cook said Apple Music Hall was created as a place where both established and emerging artists can perform, describing the venue as something that feels “uniquely Apple.”

The comments give a clearer sense of how Apple sees the venue fitting into its wider music strategy. Rather than functioning simply as an event space attached to its London offices, Apple Music Hall is being positioned as a purpose-built home for live performance, artist development and experiences connected to Apple Music.

Cook also singled out the UK music industry, saying the country’s music scene “punches way above its weight” globally and describing Apple’s investment in the space as one way for the company to give back to the community.

Apple Music Hall opened at Battersea Power Station this year and has already hosted performances, including an opening appearance from Elton John. The venue is equipped for intimate live shows and includes technology designed around immersive audio.

Cook’s remarks came during Apple’s work with The King’s Trust, which this week brought young creators to Battersea for workshops focused on music and the creative industries. Apple and The King’s Trust have launched Creative Labs, a program that gives young people access to Apple technology, experts and mentorship as they explore careers in creative fields.

For Apple, the combination of Apple Music Hall and programs such as Creative Labs gives the company another physical foothold in the music industry beyond its streaming service, radio stations and artist-focused tools. Cook’s comments suggest live performance will be a meaningful part of that push.
