Apple could refresh the iMac as soon as October, with a new 24-inch model expected to bring the M6 chip and updated color options without significantly changing the all-in-one Mac’s design.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has repeatedly included a new iMac among the products Apple is preparing for later this year, making it a strong candidate for the company’s expected second wave of fall hardware.
The Apple Post reported in August that Apple was preparing the M6 iMac with refreshed colors. Exactly which shades will change has not been reported.
The update would see Apple skip M5 entirely for the iMac, moving directly from the M4 model introduced in 2024 to M6. The current 24-inch form factor is expected to remain, with no indication that Apple is about to revive a larger iMac.
M6 should be the most meaningful internal change, bringing the iMac onto Apple’s latest generation of Mac silicon and improving performance for Apple Intelligence and more demanding workloads.
The iMac may not arrive alone. References believed to relate to the new desktop and an M6 14-inch MacBook Pro have already appeared in Apple software. macOS code leaked several unreleased products ahead of their expected launches.
Apple has a long history of making Mac announcements in October, but another October event is not guaranteed. A straightforward M6 iMac refresh would be particularly well suited to a Newsroom announcement if Apple decides against another keynote.
