Apple Home Hub could launch as soon as October as smart home push accelerates

Apple’s long-rumored smart home hub could launch as soon as October, potentially giving the company an entirely new product category built around Siri AI, Home controls and a roughly seven-inch display.

The device, sometimes referred to unofficially as HomePad, has been in development for years. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has put its current launch window between October and early 2027, meaning it could appear alongside Apple’s expected HomePod mini and Apple TV updates this fall — but a delay into next year remains possible.

The Apple Post reported on that October-to-early-2027 window in July. The hardware is expected to use a square display and a new home-focused interface derived from Apple’s existing software platforms.

Siri is expected to sit at the center of the experience. The hub could provide quick access to Home accessories, calendars, reminders, notes, photos and security cameras, while also supporting FaceTime calls.

Apple is believed to have tested two versions. One would sit on a rounded speaker-like base for use on a kitchen counter, desk or shelf, while another could attach to a wall with a magnetic mounting system.

Facial recognition could allow the interface to change depending on who approaches it, showing personal information such as calendars and reminders. Reports have also suggested the display could adapt information based on how far away a person is standing.

Clues have repeatedly appeared in Apple’s own software. macOS code has referenced multiple unreleased Home devices and what appears to be new homeOS software.

There is also physical evidence that Apple is preparing to make Home a much bigger part of its retail presence. Apple Stores are reportedly being prepared with new product display areas and accessory bays ahead of upcoming smart-home launches.

If Home Hub is ready for October, it could also determine how Apple introduces its next wave of products. A completely new Home product would give Apple a stronger reason to hold another event than routine Apple TV, HomePod mini and Mac refreshes would on their own.

For now, the timing remains fluid. But after years of delays tied partly to Apple’s next-generation Siri work, the company’s smart-home hub appears closer than ever to becoming a real product.
