Apple has released iOS 26.7 for iPhone, giving users who are not ready to move to iOS 27 another update option as the company begins rolling out its next major operating system.
The update is focused on bug fixes and security improvements rather than new features, making it particularly relevant for iPhone owners who would prefer to remain on iOS 26 for the time being.
Apple is releasing iOS 26.7 alongside the arrival of iOS 27, its major annual iPhone software update featuring Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities, performance improvements and changes throughout the operating system.
For users who do not want to install a major new iOS release immediately, iOS 26.7 provides a way to remain on the previous generation of software while still receiving Apple’s latest fixes. Major iOS releases can occasionally expose compatibility problems or other issues once they reach millions of devices, so some users choose to wait before upgrading.
That does not mean iOS 27 should necessarily be avoided. The update has undergone months of developer and public beta testing, and Apple has placed a major emphasis on performance this year. The Apple Post has also looked at whether users should install iOS 27 immediately or wait.
iOS 27 supports iPhone 11 and newer, with a wide range of existing iPhone models eligible for the upgrade. Not every supported device receives every feature, however, with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI requiring newer hardware.
Users who want to stay on iOS 26 can check for iOS 26.7 by opening Settings, selecting General and tapping Software Update. Depending on the device and Apple’s update presentation, users may be offered iOS 27 separately as the major upgrade.
Anyone choosing iOS 26.7 today can still upgrade to iOS 27 later. Waiting for an update such as iOS 27.0.1 or iOS 27.1 can also give Apple and third-party developers additional time to address any problems discovered after the initial public release.
