Apple has released macOS 27 Golden Gate, bringing Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence features, design refinements and performance improvements to compatible Macs.
The free update is available for Macs powered by Apple silicon, with users able to install it through System Settings > General > Software Update.
macOS 27 marks an important change for the Mac because Apple has dropped support for Intel processors with this year’s major release. Compatible machines include Apple silicon MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro models, alongside the MacBook Neo.
Siri AI is at the center of the update. The redesigned assistant supports natural back-and-forth conversations, richer answers and personal context, with users able to type or speak requests. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app for keeping previous conversations in one place.
Apple Intelligence is more deeply integrated across macOS, including improvements in Photos, Messages and Safari. Visual Intelligence can also help users understand content on their Mac and act on information without breaking their workflow.
Apple has continued refining Liquid Glass in macOS 27, improving readability and contrast while making smaller visual changes throughout the operating system.
The end of major macOS upgrades for Intel Macs is one of the most significant aspects of Golden Gate. macOS Tahoe 26 remains the final major macOS version available for supported Intel machines, although Apple has said those Macs will continue receiving security updates.
macOS 27 follows a summer of beta testing after its introduction at WWDC26. Apple released the Golden Gate Release Candidate last week before making the finished update available today.
