Apple has released iOS 27, bringing its latest major software update to compatible iPhone models with Siri AI, expanded Apple Intelligence features, design refinements and a range of performance improvements.
The free update is available for the iPhone 11 and later, alongside the second-generation iPhone SE and newer. Users can download iOS 27 by opening Settings, selecting General and choosing Software Update.
Siri AI is the headline addition, giving Apple’s assistant richer answers, more natural conversations and an understanding of personal context. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app where users can return to previous conversations. Siri AI is initially rolling out in English, with usage limits potentially applying.
Apple Intelligence has also expanded across iOS. Photos gains Spatial Reframing, an Extend tool and a more capable Clean Up feature, while Image Playground can generate images in additional styles, including photorealistic results.
Visual Intelligence now reaches the Camera app through a dedicated Siri mode, allowing users to point their iPhone at something and begin a visual search directly from the viewfinder.
Beyond AI, Apple has refined the Liquid Glass design introduced last year. iOS 27 improves contrast and readability, sharpens app icons and introduces a slider that lets users adjust the appearance of Liquid Glass from clearer to more heavily tinted.
Performance is another major focus. Apple says apps can launch up to 30% faster, new photos can appear in the Photos library up to 70% faster and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80% faster. The update also improves transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular connections.
Other additions include more relevant Mail search results, improved iCloud Shared Albums, AirPods Custom EQ controls, enhanced Flyover in Maps, new accessibility features, smarter Home features and GymKit support on iPhone.
Not every iOS 27 feature is available on every supported iPhone. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require newer hardware, meaning older devices that can install iOS 27 will still miss some of the update’s biggest additions.
The release follows months of developer and public beta testing that began after WWDC26. Apple issued the iOS 27 Release Candidate last week ahead of today’s public rollout.
