Apple is reportedly preparing an unusual new AI feature for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 that can analyze parts of a user’s day and produce a private summary of what happened.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says the feature is called Recaps and will live inside the Siri app. It is designed to provide summaries of a user’s day, including conversations, without presenting a transcript or storing conventional audio recordings.
According to Gurman, Recaps can operate throughout the day, be activated on demand or run when the wearer is in particular locations. The feature appears to be Apple’s answer to the growing category of AI devices designed to remember real-world interactions and turn them into searchable or summarized information.
Privacy is likely to be central to Apple’s implementation. Gurman says he believes Recaps will require new Apple Watch hardware containing an updated chip that can secure the necessary audio processing. That could explain why the feature is expected to be associated with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 rather than simply arriving as a software update for every watchOS 27-compatible model.
The concept bears some similarities to Amazon’s Bee wearable, although integrating the technology into Apple Watch would remove the need for users to carry a separate AI recording device.
Important questions remain about exactly when the Watch listens, how processing is performed, what information is retained and what controls Apple will provide to users. Those details are likely to be crucial for a feature capable of analyzing conversations taking place around the wearer.
