Apple’s foldable iPhone may be called ‘iPhone Duo’ as last-minute leak reveals price and colors

Apple could be preparing to give its first foldable iPhone a very different name than many reports have suggested, with a last-minute leak claiming the device may launch as the “iPhone Duo.”

The foldable has widely been referred to as the iPhone Ultra in the run-up to Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event, although Apple itself has never confirmed the name. With just hours to go before the company takes the stage, a new report has added iPhone Duo to the increasingly complicated picture.

As reported by 9to5Mac, a last-minute leak claims Apple’s foldable will not use the Ultra name and will instead be marketed as iPhone Duo. The name would make sense as a reference to the device’s two-display folding design, but it should still be treated as unconfirmed until Apple makes the product official.

The report also points to a starting price of $2,199, putting the foldable comfortably above Apple’s existing iPhone Pro lineup. That figure lines up with separate reporting around the device’s expected premium positioning, with higher-capacity configurations potentially pushing the cost considerably further.

Color options are also beginning to come into focus. The latest rumors point to a light silver or white finish alongside a very dark blue or indigo option, although Apple’s final marketing names could be different.

Whatever Apple ultimately calls the device, it is expected to represent the biggest change to the iPhone’s physical design in years. Rumors have consistently described a book-style handset with an approximately 5.5-inch display on the outside and a much larger 7.8-inch screen revealed when the device is unfolded.

Other expected features include Apple’s A20 Pro chip, Touch ID in the side button rather than Face ID, MagSafe support and two rear cameras. Apple is also believed to have spent considerable effort reducing the visibility of the crease running through the folding display.

The remaining uncertainty around the name is particularly notable this close to the announcement. iPhone Ultra, iPhone Fold and iPhone Duo have all appeared in speculation, but none should be considered official before Apple reveals the product.

Apple’s “Surprise and shine” event takes place today, September 9, beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific Time and 6 p.m. in the UK. The foldable iPhone is expected to appear alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, as well as new Apple Watch models.
