Apple has released iOS 26.6.2 for iPhone, delivering a small but particularly well-timed fix as the company prepares for the arrival of iOS 27.
The update became available on Tuesday, one day before Apple’s September special event. Rather than introducing any new features, iOS 26.6.2 addresses a problem that could prevent an iPhone from downloading a software update while using a cellular connection.
Apple’s release notes say the update fixes an issue affecting software downloads over cellular networks.
The timing could prove important. Apple is expected to release iOS 27 soon after Wednesday’s event, meaning iPhone owners running iOS 26 may soon be attempting to download a significantly larger operating system update. Fixing the cellular download issue beforehand should reduce the possibility of affected users running into problems when upgrading.
iOS 26.6.2 can be downloaded by opening Settings, selecting General and then Software Update. As usual, availability may take a short time to appear across all compatible devices.
Apple has also released iPadOS 26.6.2 for compatible iPad models, with the update addressing the same cellular software download issue.
Attention is now turning to iOS 27, which is expected to receive its final release candidate around Apple’s September event before the public version arrives shortly afterwards.
