Apple could introduce a new Apple Watch app called Readiness at its ‘Surprise and Shine’ event tomorrow, giving users a clearer picture of how prepared their body is for exercise and daily activity.
According to MacRumors, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the app is expected to act as a variation of Apple’s existing Vitals experience and is designed to make the Apple Watch more competitive with recovery-focused products from Oura and Whoop.
Rather than simply presenting overnight health measurements, Readiness could use information such as heart rate, respiratory rate, wrist temperature and sleep data to give users a more useful indication of whether they are well recovered or should take things easier.
The feature appears to have been hiding in plain sight for several days. References to a separate Readiness app were recently discovered inside watchOS 27 beta code, where it reportedly appears alongside Apple’s existing Workout app in the default Apple Watch Home Screen layout.
Apple already offers Vitals on Apple Watch, which brings together several overnight health measurements in one place and can alert users when multiple metrics fall outside their typical range. A dedicated Readiness experience would take that information a step further by turning it into more actionable guidance.
The new app is expected to be announced alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 during Apple’s event on Wednesday, September 9. Both models are also rumored to introduce continuous heart-rate sensing outside workouts, which could give Apple more data to support its expanding health and fitness features.
Apple’s September event is also expected to bring the Apple Watch Series 12 alongside the company’s next-generation iPhones and other hardware announcements.
