Apple’s September event is only a day away, but iPad fans may have another launch to look forward to almost immediately afterwards.
An updated iPad mini with an OLED display is expected before the end of October, potentially making the compact tablet one of Apple’s most significant remaining product launches of 2026.
The timing means Apple is unlikely to need to squeeze every product into tomorrow’s “Surprise and shine” keynote. The Apple Post has already highlighted the OLED iPad mini among the products more likely to arrive after the September event.
As reported by MacRumors, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects the OLED iPad mini to launch by the end of October. That would put only a matter of weeks between Apple’s new iPhones and another notable hardware release.
OLED would be a particularly significant upgrade for the iPad mini. The technology can deliver deeper blacks, stronger contrast and more precise control over individual pixels than the LCD panel used by the current model, bringing the smaller iPad closer to Apple’s premium display technology elsewhere in the lineup.
An updated chip and other internal improvements are also expected, although the display change is likely to be the headline feature for a product whose basic form factor has remained popular with users wanting something more portable than Apple’s larger tablets.
Apple has several products reportedly waiting beyond tomorrow. The Apple Post reported this morning on the wider second wave of Apple hardware expected through the end of 2026 and into early 2027.
Whether Apple chooses another event, a newsroom announcement or a quieter online launch remains to be seen. But anyone considering buying an iPad mini now may have good reason to wait until October.
