iOS 27 code leaks five new camera features potentially coming to iPhone 18 Pro

Apple could be preparing a collection of new camera features for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with references discovered inside iOS 27 offering clues about what could be announced this week.

The findings come from code uncovered by MacRumors forum member pdfu, who has been examining Apple’s latest iOS 27 beta releases for references to unreleased hardware and features.

As reported by MacRumors, the code points toward five Camera app capabilities that could arrive alongside Apple’s next iPhones or through a future iOS 27 update.

Among the discoveries are references suggesting Apple is developing more advanced control over photography and video capture, adding to an already substantial list of camera improvements rumored for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

The leak arrives just days before Apple’s September 9 “Surprise and shine” special event, where the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be unveiled.

The new models have already been linked to a variable-aperture Main camera, potentially allowing users to adjust how much light reaches the sensor and gain greater control over depth of field.

Apple is also rumored to be adopting an advanced stacked image sensor on at least one model, which could improve responsiveness, dynamic range and low-light performance.

The Apple Post has previously rounded up the major upgrades expected for the iPhone 18 Pro, including the A20 Pro chip, smaller Dynamic Island and Apple’s next-generation C2 modem.

The latest code discoveries are particularly notable because they come directly from Apple’s own software rather than supply-chain information, although references found in beta code do not guarantee that every feature will be enabled when the new devices launch.

Apple could also reserve some of the capabilities for later iOS 27 releases, particularly if they are still undergoing development.

Apple’s September 9 special event will begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time and 6 p.m. in the UK, with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup expected to appear alongside Apple’s first foldable iPhone and new Apple Watch models.
