Apple’s next Apple Watch models could arrive with several previously unknown upgrades, after references discovered inside iOS 27 and watchOS 27 revealed clues about features Apple has been developing for its wearables.
The findings arrive just days before Apple’s September 9 special event, where Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are expected to be announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
As reported by MacRumors, code examined by forum member pdfu points to four additions connected with Apple’s upcoming watches.
The discoveries add to earlier evidence that Apple is preparing a more substantial Apple Watch upgrade this year, following a relatively modest internal update with the previous generation.
One of the biggest changes already indicated by leaked Apple code is a new processor. Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3 and SE 3 continued to use the same underlying S10 generation of silicon, but references suggest the 2026 models will move to a new chip.
Apple has also been rumored to focus on improving battery life with Series 12, an area where even modest efficiency gains could make a noticeable difference for users who wear their watch throughout the day and overnight for sleep tracking.
Previous beta code has additionally contained references to Touch ID for Apple Watch. The feature could potentially allow a fingerprint sensor to be incorporated into the side button, although there remains no guarantee Apple will introduce it with this year’s hardware.
The Apple Post has been following reports surrounding Apple Watch Series 12 ahead of its expected unveiling, including leaks surrounding Apple’s planned hardware and health upgrades.
Apple Watch Ultra 4 is expected to sit alongside Series 12 at the top of Apple’s wearable lineup, continuing the larger and more rugged design aimed at athletes and outdoor users.
The latest software references provide stronger evidence that Apple has been actively preparing functionality for unreleased Watch hardware, but features found in beta software can be delayed or abandoned before release.
Apple will hold its “Surprise and shine” special event on Wednesday, September 9, beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific Time and 6 p.m. in the UK.
