Apple’s iOS 27 update is almost ready for its public debut, and if the company follows the release pattern established over the past several years, iPhone users should not have much longer to wait.
Apple will hold its ‘Surprise and shine’ special event on Wednesday, September 9, where the company is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and its first foldable iPhone. The event should also give Apple the opportunity to confirm exactly when iOS 27 will become available to the public.
Looking at Apple’s recent September launches, Apple released iOS 26 on Monday, September 15 last year, six days after its September 9 iPhone event. A year earlier, iOS 18 arrived on Monday, September 16, seven days after Apple unveiled the iPhone 16 lineup on September 9.
iOS 27 could be released on Monday, September 14
That recent pattern makes Monday, September 14 the strongest candidate for the iOS 27 release date this year. It falls five days after Apple’s September 9 event and would continue the company’s recent habit of releasing its major annual iPhone software update on the Monday following its September presentation.
The pattern stretches back further. iOS 17 was released on Monday, September 18, 2023, six days after Apple’s September 12 event, while iOS 16 arrived on Monday, September 12, 2022, five days after the September 7 iPhone 14 event.
Across those four releases, Apple has consistently made its major iOS update available between five and seven days after its September iPhone event. Applying the same pattern to this year points directly towards September 14.

There is also a good chance Apple will make the iOS 27 Release Candidate available to developers and public beta testers shortly after Wednesday’s event. That would effectively represent the finished version of the software, barring any last-minute problems discovered before the public rollout.
