Apple’s long-rumored smart home hub is reportedly nearing launch, with Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman saying the company is targeting a release between October and early 2027.
The device is expected to feature a 7-inch square display running a new operating system built on tvOS, with an interface combining elements of both tvOS and watchOS. According to the report, it will act as a central hub for controlling HomeKit accessories while also supporting FaceTime, widgets, calendars, reminders, notes, and home security features.
One of the most notable features is expected to be facial recognition. Gurman says the device will be able to recognise who is standing in front of the display and automatically personalise the interface, showing relevant information such as calendars, reminders, and other content for that specific user. It will also reportedly adjust the size of on-screen information depending on how far away someone is from the display.
Apple is said to be developing two versions of the device. One reportedly sits on a rounded, speaker-like base, while another is designed to attach to a wall using a magnetic mounting system.
