Apple could be preparing new Apple Music subscription tiers, code suggests

Apple may be working on new subscription options for Apple Music, according to code discovered in the latest beta version of the service’s Android app.

The findings, shared by Aaron Perris, include references to “premium access” and a message that appears when a user reaches a track-skipping limit.

One string suggests that certain features may require “premium access,” while another reads “Can’t skip any more tracks,” implying that some users could face restrictions depending on their subscription level.

The discovery has sparked speculation that Apple could be exploring additional Apple Music tiers, though it’s not yet clear what form they might take.

One possibility is a free, ad-supported version of Apple Music, similar to Spotify’s free tier, where users face limitations such as restricted skips. Another possibility is that Apple is considering new paid plans with different features and pricing.

At this stage, however, there is little evidence to confirm exactly what Apple has planned. Perris himself noted that the strings could be related to something entirely different, such as Apple Music radio stations or other existing functionality.

Apple Music currently offers several subscription options, including Individual, Family, Student, and Voice plans in some regions, but there has been little indication that the company intends to significantly expand its lineup.
