Apple drops 256GB Mac mini, raises entry price to $799

Apple is no longer selling the 256GB Mac mini, meaning the desktop now starts at a higher price.

The company has removed the base 256GB configuration from its lineup, with the 512GB model now the standard option. As a result, the Mac mini now starts at $799 with the M4 chip, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Previously, it started at $599 with 256GB of storage.

While the 512GB configuration has always been priced at $799, customers can no longer buy a new Mac mini from Apple at the lower $599 price point.

This change doesn’t affect higher-end models with the M4 Pro chip, which already started with 512GB of storage.

The 256GB model had been unavailable to order since last week, but has now been removed entirely.

This comes as Apple continues to face supply constraints. Speaking on the company’s earnings call this week, CEO Tim Cook said Mac mini and Mac Studio supply remains tight, adding that it could take “several months” to reach a balance between supply and demand.
