Apple announces AirPods Max 2 with H2 chip, improved ANC, and new intelligent features

Apple has announced AirPods Max 2, introducing improved Active Noise Cancellation, enhanced sound quality, and several new intelligent features powered by the company’s H2 chip.
The new over-ear headphones build on the original AirPods Max design while adding new capabilities such as Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, Voice Isolation, and Live Translation. Apple says the new model also unlocks additional tools for creators, including studio-quality audio recording and the ability to control the iPhone or iPad camera remotely using the Digital Crown.
According to Apple, the H2 chip enables up to 1.5 times more effective Active Noise Cancellation compared with the previous generation. The improvement helps reduce environmental sounds such as airplane engines or commuter trains, allowing users to better focus on music, calls, or other audio.
Apple has also improved the listening experience with a new high dynamic range amplifier designed to deliver cleaner audio while maintaining the original AirPods Max sound signature. The headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected using the included USB-C cable, enabling higher-quality audio playback for music, movies, and games.
The new model also introduces several software features already available on other AirPods models. Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts the balance between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency depending on the surrounding environment, while Conversation Awareness lowers audio playback when the user begins speaking to someone nearby. Voice Isolation improves call clarity by prioritizing the user’s voice and reducing background noise.
Apple is also bringing Live Translation to AirPods Max for the first time, allowing users to communicate across languages in person using Apple Intelligence features.
AirPods Max 2 will be available to order starting March 25 on Apple’s online store and through the Apple Store app, with availability beginning early next month. The headphones will be offered in five colors: midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue, with pricing starting at $549 in the United States.
