Apple launches iPhone 17e with A19 chip, MagSafe and 256GB base storage

Apple has announced the iPhone 17e, positioning it as the most affordable model in the iPhone 17 lineup while adding several upgrades over last year’s iPhone 16e.
At the centre of the new device is Apple’s A19 chip, which brings faster CPU and GPU performance and improved efficiency. Apple says the chip delivers a noticeable jump in speed for everyday tasks, gaming and on-device AI features compared with earlier entry-level models.
The iPhone 17e also marks the return of MagSafe to Apple’s budget iPhone range, following criticism of its absence on the iPhone 16e. MagSafe enables faster wireless charging and support for Apple’s ecosystem of magnetic accessories.
Another notable change is storage. The iPhone 17e now starts at 256GB, double the base storage of the previous generation, while keeping the same $599 starting price in the US. A 512GB option is also available.
The phone features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says offers improved scratch resistance and reduced glare. The aluminium frame is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance.
On the camera side, the iPhone 17e uses a single 48-megapixel Fusion camera that supports an optical-quality 2x zoom, effectively delivering two focal lengths from one sensor. The camera supports Night mode, next-generation Portraits and 4K Dolby Vision video recording at up to 60 frames per second. The front camera supports Face ID and Apple’s Center Stage features.
Connectivity has also been upgraded. The iPhone 17e includes Apple’s new C1X cellular modem, which the company says is faster and more power-efficient than the modem used in the iPhone 16e. Satellite features are supported as well, including Emergency SOS, Messages via satellite, Roadside Assistance and Find My when outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
Battery life is rated for all-day use, with support for fast wired charging over USB-C and faster wireless charging via MagSafe and Qi2.
The iPhone 17e runs iOS 26 out of the box, bringing Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language and Apple Intelligence features such as Live Translation, Visual Intelligence and Call Screening.
The device will be available in black, white and soft pink. Pre-orders open on Wednesday, March 4, with general availability beginning March 11 in more than 70 countries and regions.
With improved performance, restored MagSafe support and a higher base storage tier at the same price, Apple is clearly positioning the iPhone 17e as a longer-lasting, better-value upgrade for users coming from older iPhones.
