Low-cost MacBook to offer ‘incredible value’, report claims

Apple believes its upcoming low-cost MacBook could be a breakout hit, with the company internally describing the device as offering “incredible value”, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The report comes just days before Apple’s March 4 “special Apple Experience”, with Tim Cook teasing that there is “a big week ahead”.
Apple is expected to begin unveiling new hardware as early as tomorrow through a three-day run of announcements, all leading up to the in-person Apple Experience on March 4.
One of the headline products tipped for the week is a brand-new low-cost MacBook. The device is widely expected to be powered by an iPhone-class A18 Pro chip, feature a 12.9-inch display, and launch in a range of colourful finishes. Pricing is rumoured to come in below $700, positioning it as Apple’s most affordable notebook in years.
According to Gurman, Apple believes the MacBook could attract a significant number of customers switching from Windows laptops and Chromebooks. The company also thinks it could appeal to iPhone users who do not currently own a computer, encouraging them to buy their first Mac.
Gurman adds that Apple is bracing for strong launch-day demand. Retail employees have reportedly been warned that they may need to work extended hours, similar to the staffing levels typically seen during an iPhone launch.
Apple is also said to be planning prominent in-store placement for one of its new products, with “an entire table dedicated” to it — a move that is widely believed to be reserved for the new low-cost MacBook.
