Apple reportedly slows iPhone Air production amid weaker demand

Apple has reportedly instructed suppliers to slow production of the iPhone Air following weaker-than-expected demand, according to The Elec, citing Japan’s Mizuho Securities.
The report indicates that consumers are gravitating toward the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, which are seeing stronger demand than anticipated. Buyers appear to favor the higher-end models over the iPhone Air, which sacrifices some features for a slimmer, lighter design.
Sales of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are said to be outperforming their predecessors from the same period last year, while the standard iPhone 17 is also a standout success, significantly exceeding the iPhone 16’s early performance.
By contrast, the iPhone Air is reportedly lagging behind expectations. Apple plans to cut its production by about one million units this year while boosting output of the other iPhone 17 models by two million units. Overall, Apple has raised its total iPhone 17 series production forecast from 88 million to 94 million units heading into early 2026.
