Apple halts “Apple Vision Air” to prioritize AI smart glasses

Apple has reportedly paused development of its rumored “Apple Vision Air” headset — a lighter, more affordable alternative to the $3,499 Apple Vision Pro — in order to focus resources on a new category of AI-powered smart glasses, according to Bloomberg.
The Vision Air was expected to offer a mainstream option alongside Vision Pro, but Apple is said to have redirected engineers toward a pair of smart glasses designed to compete with Meta’s AI-equipped Ray-Bans.
The upcoming glasses will feature built-in cameras, microphones, and AI integration, with functionality tied to a connected iPhone. Apple is targeting an introduction as early as next year, with a full launch currently planned for 2027.
Unlike Vision Pro, Apple’s smart glasses are said to emphasize fashion as much as technology, with multiple frame styles, material options, and colors available at launch. They will also feature health-tracking capabilities, positioning them as both a lifestyle accessory and a personal assistant powered by Apple’s own silicon.
