New AirTags rumored to debut at iPhone 17 event

Apple is expected to announce its first-ever update to AirTag at its highly anticipated “Awe Dropping” event on September 9. The new model, likely to be called AirTag 2, would arrive four years after the original tracker debuted.
As noted by MacRumors, a June report suggested Apple was targeting a fall release for the second-generation AirTag, lining up with next week’s iPhone event.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported that the new AirTag will feature a next-generation Ultra Wideband chip, delivering up to three times the range of the current model. This could extend Precision Finding from today’s 10–30 meters to as much as 90 meters, allowing users to locate lost items over longer distances with greater accuracy.
While the updated tracker is expected to keep its compact, button-style design and replaceable CR2032 battery, Apple is rumored to be improving the built-in speaker, making it louder and easier to hear in noisy environments.
