Future iPad models to feature slimmer bezels, reports suggest

Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro models could boast slimmer bezels, thanks to new advancements in display technology, according to a report from Korean outlet The Elec, cited by MacRumors.
The report claims Apple is in the final stages of evaluating LG Innotek’s chip-on-film (CoF) technology for upcoming OLED iPad Pro displays. This manufacturing technique enables internal components, such as display driver chips, to be mounted directly onto a flexible film rather than rigid circuit boards, paving the way for thinner bezels and sleeker overall designs.
In addition to LG Innotek’s CoF technology, Apple is reportedly considering display driver ICs from South Korean semiconductor company LX Semicon. A final decision on LX Semicon’s involvement is expected this month. If selected, LX Semicon would play a key role in enabling the slimmer display borders on future iPad models.
While The Elec stops short of confirming which iPad models will incorporate the new components, DigiTimes separately reports that LX Semicon’s entry into Apple’s supply chain is specifically tied to the iPad Pro lineup. This aligns with previous rumors suggesting Apple plans to overhaul its premium tablet range with OLED displays in 2024 and beyond.
