Apple shares iOS 18 adoption stats ahead of WWDC25

As Apple prepares to unveil its next major iOS update at WWDC25 next week, the company has released new figures highlighting the adoption rates of its current operating systems, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
According to Apple, iOS 18 is now running on 88% of iPhones introduced in the past four years. When considering all compatible iPhone models, that number stands at 82%. These figures reflect a solid adoption rate, slightly ahead of iOS 17’s performance during the same time last year. In June 2024, iOS 17 had reached 86% of recent devices and 77% of all supported iPhones.
Looking further back, iOS 16 had an even stronger uptake, reaching 90% of iPhones introduced in the previous four years and 81% of all devices by June 2023. This suggests that iOS 18 has maintained a high level of adoption, keeping pace with recent trends despite the increasing lifespan of older iPhones.
The adoption data for iPadOS 18 shows a similar pattern. Apple reports that 81% of iPads released within the last four years are running the latest version of iPadOS, while 71% of all iPads have been updated. By comparison, iPadOS 17 had reached 86% of recent iPads and 68% of all models around this time in 2024. In June 2023, iPadOS 16 had been installed on 76% of iPads from the prior four years and 71% of all iPads overall.
