Apple launching ‘CarPlay Ultra’ today, available with new vehicles in the U.S. and Canada

Apple has unveiled ‘CarPlay Ultra,’ the latest evolution of its in-car interface, designed to deliver a seamless blend of iPhone capabilities and vehicle technology. The new platform promises a fully integrated experience, enhancing both navigation and in-car controls while reflecting each automaker’s unique design aesthetic. According to Apple, CarPlay Ultra “builds on the capabilities of CarPlay and provides the ultimate in-car experience by deeply integrating with the vehicle to deliver the best of iPhone and the best of the car.”
Starting today, CarPlay Ultra is available with new Aston Martin vehicle orders in the U.S. and Canada. Existing Aston Martin models equipped with the brand’s next-generation infotainment system will also receive access to CarPlay Ultra through a software update in the coming weeks. This move marks the beginning of a broader rollout, with Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis among the global automakers committed to bringing CarPlay Ultra to their vehicles soon.
One of the standout features of CarPlay Ultra is its ability to deliver real-time content across all driver screens, including the instrument cluster. This integration allows for dynamic, customizable displays of critical driving information such as speed, fuel levels, temperature, and more. Apple has designed CarPlay Ultra to maintain the vehicle’s unique look and feel while providing a consistent and visually appealing interface. Drivers can easily toggle between iPhone content like maps and media and vehicle-specific data such as advanced driver assistance systems and tire pressure, all within the same seamless interface.
CarPlay Ultra also introduces enhanced control options, enabling drivers to manage both standard vehicle functions and advanced features directly from the CarPlay interface. Onscreen controls, physical buttons, or Siri voice commands can be used to operate essentials like the car’s radio and climate control, as well as vehicle-specific configurations like audio system settings or performance adjustments. Apple has further enhanced the experience with customizable widgets powered by iPhone, designed to fit perfectly within the car’s screen layout or gauge cluster, providing essential information at a glance.
The initial rollout of CarPlay Ultra is exclusive to Aston Martin’s core model lineup in the U.S. and Canada, with a global expansion planned over the next 12 months. New Aston Martin vehicles will come equipped with the technology starting today, while existing models with compatible infotainment systems can expect software updates to be available at local dealers in the coming weeks.
CarPlay Ultra is compatible with iPhone 12 or later, running iOS 18.5 or newer, ensuring users have access to the latest features and seamless integration.
