Gurman says next-gen Apple Vision Pro not expected until end of 2026

Apple’s current internal product roadmap doesn’t include a second-generation Apple Vision Pro until at least the end of 2026, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who reports that the iPhone maker is trying to figure out a way to bring a cheaper version to market before then.

Writing in his weekly Power On newsletter on Sunday, Gurman says Apple is introducing a new version of the Apple Vision Pro software this year — visionOS 2.0 — but that isn’t expected to be a game changer. According to the report, Apple’s focus is on the international expansion of the device, with the company getting ready to bring the headset to China in the very near future.

Discussing Meta’s strategy reminiscent of Google’s Android, where the manufacturer will offer its operating system — Meta Horizon OS — to third-party virtual reality headset makers, Gurman says “The good news for Meta is it could have plenty of time to pursue that goal. Apple’s latest Vision Pro road map doesn’t currently call for a second-generation model until the end of 2026.”

Apple introduced Apple Vision Pro last year, made from a single piece of three-dimensionally shaped laminated glass with an aluminum alloy frame that contours to the user’s face, the device boasts an array of advanced cameras and sensors. These components collaborate to deliver an immersive mixed-reality experience, enhanced by speakers strategically positioned near the user’s ears to provide Spatial Audio, resulting in lifelike three-dimensional environments.

Currently, Apple Vision Pro is only available in the US. However, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed that Apple could launch its mixed-reality Apple Vision Pro headset on an international scale prior to WWDC, saying at the time that Apple was adapting algorithms to comply with various countries’ regulations before releasing the device outside of the US.
