Remembering Steve Jobs on the 12th anniversary of his death

On the 12th anniversary of his passing, we remember Steve Jobs, the visionary behind Apple.

Steve Jobs died on Wednesday, October 5th, 2011, around 3:00pm (PT), peacefully passing away at his Palo Alto home. He was surrounded by his family, including his wife Laureen Powell Jobs. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reported that respiratory arrest was the immediate cause of his demise, with an underlying metastatic pancreas neuroendocrine tumor.

In the months leading up to his departure, Jobs had stepped down as Apple CEO. His final public appearance occurred on June 7, 2011, when he addressed a Cupertino county meeting to discuss plans for Apple Park, the company’s spaceship-like headquarters. Apple Park includes the Steve Jobs Theater, a luxurious auditorium dedicated to his memory, where Apple’s product launches and special events take place.

In 1976, at the age of 21, Jobs and his college friend, Steve Wozniak, launched Apple Computer in the Jobs family garage, introducing the world to the first Apple I and Apple II computers.

Steve Jobs’ visionary leadership shaped the world as we know it today. Under his guidance, Apple have given us iconic innovations like the Mac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad, among others. He also played a pivotal role as the chairman and majority shareholder of Pixar and served on The Walt Disney Company’s board of directors following its acquisition of Pixar.
