Apple releases iOS 16.5 with new Pride Celebration wallpaper, News app updates, more

Apple has released iOS 16.5 for iPhone, adding a new Pride Celebration wallpaper for the Lock Screen, updates to the News app, including a new Sports tab with stories, scores, standings, and more, in addition to bug fixes and improvements.

Available to download now, iOS 16.5 updates the News app on iPhone with new “My Sports” score and schedule cards that take users to game pages where they can find additional details about specific games, with the app adding a dedicated Sports tap for stories, scores, standings, and more.

The update includes a special Pride Celebration wallpaper for the Lock Screen to honor the LGBTQ+ community and culture. The new wallpaper is a vibrant interpretation of the Apple Watch Pride Edition Sport Band, which was announced last week with a matching Pride Celebration watch face.

In terms of bug fixes, iOS 16.5 fixes an issue where Spotlight may become unresponsive, an issue where Screen Time settings may reset or not sync across all devices, and updates to address an issue where Podcasts in CarPlay may not load content.

iOS 16.5 is a relatively minor update in comparison to iOS 16.4, which brought 21 new emoji including new animals, hand gestures, objects, and more, support for notifications on web apps added to the Home Screen, Voice Isolation for cellular calls, Crash Detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, and more.
