Google announces new $1,799 Pixel Fold: Google’s first foldable phone

Google has announced its first-ever foldable phone, the Pixel Fold.

Priced at $1,799, the Pixel Fold is touted as a phone that unfolds into a compact a 7.6-inch tablet, with the company redesigning the camera, battery, speakers and haptics components to fit into the new foldable design, featuring a custom-built hinge that Google claims is “the most durable hinge out there” on a folding phone.

The device boasts three cameras, including a 48-megapixel main camera, an ultrawide camera, and a telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. The Pixel Fold also includes a fingerprint scanner within the device’s power button, facial recognition, and IPX8 water resistance.

Pre-orders for the Pixel Fold are underway now, available in two colors, Porcelain and Obsidian, with deliveries beginning sometime in June.

In addition to the launch of the Pixel Fold, Google has also announced a new, affordable Pixel 7a priced at $499.
