Apple is continuing to work on bringing reverse wireless charging to the iPhone, according to a new report which suggests future models could allow users to charge their AirPods, Apple Watch and other compatible devices from the back of their iPhone.

According to 9to5Mac which cites sources with knowledge of Apple’s plans, the company is working on an “advanced bilateral wireless charging technology” for a future ‌iPhone‌.

It is said that Apple had originally intended the new technologies to launch with the iPhone 14 series last year, although issues discovered during late development forced the feature to be removed at the eleventh hour.

According to the report, Apple is creating a “wireless power out” firmware that would form the backbone for the wireless charging feature.

It is said that Apple is designing a “special user interface” for bilateral wireless charging, similar to the one used for MagSafe.

It isn’t entirely clear when the new reverse wireless charging feature will launch, with the report holding back from on speculating whether it could launch with this year’s new iPhone series.
