Apple has today rolled out the sixth developer beta of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, continuing the beta cycle for iPhone and iPad as the public release of the two updates nears.
Apple has gradually improved iOS 16 since the software was first unveiled. The second developer betas of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 made it possible for users to back up their device over LTE, in addition to 5G or a Wi-Fi connection, new Lock screen wallpaper colors, and improved filtering in the Messages app.
In the third build, Apple added a hidden easter egg to celebrate 15 years since the launch of the iPhone, with a remastered version of the classic clownfish wallpaper seen on the very first iPhone, with a surprise revised version of the third beta adding a new full-screen music player to the Lock Screen, which shows users the art for the song or podcast they are listening to when they tap the cover from the Lock Screen.
With the fourth developer beta, Apple changed the way it shows when a sent message is edited, now offering the recipient an edit log that displays the original text prior to the message, as well as changes to how long a user has to decide whether they wish to unsend a sent iMessage.
Apple’s most recent seed, the fifth developer update, added back the battery percentage to the status bar on iPhone after removing it almost five years ago with the release of the iPhone X, adding a percentage inside the battery icon in the iPhone status bar, with the color of the battery percentage numbers changing dynamically based on the user’s wallpaper, and whether or not the user is charging their iPhone or has Low Power Mode enabled.
