One of the biggest rumors about the iPhone 14 Pro is that the device will feature an always-on display, which, similar to the Apple Watch Series 5 and later, will offer users glanceable information on-screen all the time while the screen remains at a low brightness and frame rate.
As discovered by 9to5Mac, Apple’s latest iOS 16 beta has uncovered more evidence that an always-on display is coming to at least the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max this year, with a new “Sleep” state added to the default wallpapers found in the OS, which darkens and tints the wallpapers to better suit an always-on display.
An always-on display as long been rumored to be making an appearance with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max later this year. The device will darken the display when the screen is locked, showing users their Lock Screen widgets such as the weather, calendars, stocks, activities and other data without the user having to wake their iPhone.

In April we saw alleged real-world iPhone 14 display panels leak online, showing the rumored pill-shape and circular display cutouts, which will replace the traditional notch to house the front-facing camera and Face ID system on this year’s new iPhone models.
We then saw later that same month rumored iPhone 14 CAD renders appear online which suggested the new pill-shape and circular display cutouts seen in the earlier leak out remain exclusive to the high-end ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro Max’ models, with the overall physical design expected to remain very similar to the existing iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro.
In May, YouTuber and leaker Jon Prosser shared a set of concept images showing us what the iPhone 14 Pro will probably look like, featuring pill-shape and circular display cutouts, a new purple finish, and more.
