Apple releasing new MacBook Air with M2 chip later this year, report claims

Hot on the heels of Apple unveiling the Mac Studio and Studio Display on Tuesday, a new report from 9to5Mac’s Filipe Espósito is suggesting we will see a new MacBook Air launch later this year, reiterating recent rumors that the new machine will be powered by an all-new M2 processor.

The report claims the new machine, codenamed J413, will be powered by a new M2 chip, which is based on the A15 chip with an eight-core CPU like the M1 processor in the 24-inch iMac however, the M2 chip will reportedly bring a more powerful 10-core GPU.

The report notes that Apple’s new M2 chip is being developed as a replacement to the 2020 M1 chip and not the recently launched M1 Pro, M1 Max, and M1 Ultra versions, so the performance of the chip won’t match these processors, despite it being the newer of the bunch.

Respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo took to Twitter on Tuesday to share his predictions for Apple’s rumored new 2022 MacBook Air, corroborating reports that the machine will feature an all-new form factor, new color options, and more.

Leaker Jon Prosser has previously claimed that the new MacBook Air could feature a MacBook Pro-style notch, MagSafe charging, white bezels, and more.

Jon Prosser first shared his 2022 MacBook Air concepts last year which allegedly were based on information from a source with a proven track record who claimed Apple will bring “colors for average consumers” with colorful MacBook models, which will feature iMac-style white bezels, a new non-wedge design, white keyboard, and more.
