According to YouTuber, Phone Repair Guru, replacing your iPhone 13’s screen using a third-party repair shop will cause Face ID to stop working. According to the video, swapping components such as the microphone, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor, all keep the device functioning as normal. Swapping the screen though (even another OEM screen from another iPhone) prompts the following message:

Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple display. Apple has updated the device information for this iPhone
Afterwards, users will no longer have the ability to unlock their devices with Face ID. Users will also no longer be able to go through the Face ID setup process in settings receiving the folding error: “Face ID is not available. Try setting up Face ID later.” The video claims there is a workaround that includes transferring certain chips to the new screen, but says most everyday repair shops won’t do that as it’s “too sophisticated.”
The video also notes that Apple often releases a software update to fix this, but it’s unclear whether that will happen this time. Apple has reiterated time and time again that a repair completed by a “trained technician” using genuine parts is the “safest and most reliable” solution.
