Apple could give the iPad Air a new dual-camera system similar to the iPad Pro, report suggests

Apple’s next iPad Air could get a new dual-camera system similar to the iPad Pro, according to a new report from Japanese site Mac Otakara, which claims that despite a flurry in rumors over the past several months, Apple’s 6th generation iPad does “not seem to be any different from” the current models, seemingly dismissing reports that suggested the device will get a larger 8.4-inch all-screen display, similar to last year’s redesigned iPad Air.

According to the report, a Chinese supplier has claimed that Apple’s next iPad Air (5th generation) is likely to be based on the 3rd generation iPad Pro chassis, claiming the 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display and Touch ID sleep/wake button will remain unchanged, but the rear camera will be upgraded to a dual-lens camera system with a wide-angle camera and an ultra-wide-angle camera system.

In terms of this year’s new iPad mini, the site claims that despite being told the device would get a larger 8.4-inch display since the beginning of the year, it now believes that Apple will in fact keep the design of the new model near identical to the current device, meaning it wouldn’t get a modern all-screen display and Touch ID sleep/wake button as previous leakers had suggested.

As with all leaks, we suggest taking this one with a grain of salt, especially given that reliable sources such as respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have backed up rumors of Apple finally redesigning the iPad mini later this year.

Only yesterday we saw display analyst Ross Young sharing his thoughts on what he expects from the new device, claiming the upcoming 2021 iPad mini will feature a larger display with no Home button and a narrower bezel design.

Other reports have suggested that this year’s new iPad mini could be offered with 5G support, the same A15 chip rumored to be coming with the iPhone 13, a magnetic Smart Connector for accessories such as the Magic Keyboard, and a USB-C port, similar to the iPad Pro and the latest iPad Air.

Leaker Jon Prosser shared renders last month allegedly showing what to expect from Apple’s next iPad mini. It is believed that the upcoming device will be offered in three colors, including black, silver, and gold
