How to turn off Emergency Alerts on iPhone

Emergency Alerts on iPhone allow Governments to send emergency and public safety notifications in the event of danger to life.

When an alert is sent, devices play a loud siren-like sound, even if they are set to silent, with an official message from the Government, which may include a link to the Governments’s website or contact numbers when required.

By default, Government alerts are turned on, but in some countries, the notifications can be disabled in the iPhone’s Settings.

How to turn off Emergency Alerts on iPhone

  • Open Settings and tap Notifications
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and find the Government Alerts toggle
  • Here turn on or off Extreme Alerts and Severe Alerts

Alerts are supported when using a SIM card from a supported carrier. It is recommended that users keep Emergency Alerts turned on.
