Apple announces macOS Monterey with redesigned Safari, continuity features and more

macOS Monterey is here, with all the new FaceTime, intelligence and focus features revealed earlier in iOS 15. Universal Control is a brand new experience that allows work between iPad and Mac. The cursor can move effortlessly across Mac and iPad, when they are next to each other. So, you can launch controls and switch between Mac and iPad without leaving the Mac experience. It works on multiple devices, so an iMac, and move between a MacBook, and an iPad, and vice versa.

Airplay is coming to the Mac, so you can present and play content wirelessly from iPhone and iPad, to the Mac. You can also use the Mac as an Airplay speaker.

Shortcuts is coming to the Mac, so all the shortcuts that you can use on the iPhone and iPad, on the Mac, including brand new ones just for macOS. There is a new app, that allows you to edit the shortcuts directly on the Mac, so you can run them in finder, spotlight and all across the system. Automator will be slowly replaced with shortcuts, Apple saying that it will be a multi year transition.

Safari gains new features. With a brand new design, tabs have been reimagined into a streamlined tab view. The search bar is directly integrated into the tab. New tab groups allow a smarter way to organise open tabs. iPadOS also adopts the same design. iOS 15 has the brand new safari also, with new tab views and more. Lastly, web extensions are now coming to iOS and iPadOS.
