Apple bringing 8K video recording and 48-megapixel camera to iPhone 14, report claims

Apple is said to be rolling out a major camera upgrade with the iPhone 14 in 2022, with well-respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claiming the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will likely get a new 48-megapixel camera and 8K video recording.

The upgrade would offer a substantial jump from the 12-megapixel sensor in iPhone 12, with Kuo saying that the iPhone 14 Pro will “elevate mobile phone camera photography to a new level.”

In his investor note, the analyst says Apple will likely end its 5.4-inch iPhone with this year’s “iPhone 13 mini” following multiple reports suggesting the smallest of Apple’s four iPhone 12 models has seen lacklustre sales and production cuts as a result of higher than expected consumer demand for the premium iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Kuo hints that the 8K video recording upgrade could be linked to Apple’s rumored mixed-reality headset. The analyst says the 2022 iPhone will create videos and images “more suitable for AR/MR devices” and that will “enhance the AR/MR user experience.”
