Images claim to show 5.4-inch ‘iPhone 12’ display panel

Images shared to Chinese social networking site Weibo claim to show display panels for one of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 models, specifically the 5.4-inch variant expected to form part of the line replacing the current iPhone 11.

The images show what appears to be trays of display panels on an assembly line, with the panels showing that the device will likely have the same sized TrueDepth camera system, AKA “notch”, and a similar shared display with rounded corners.

It isn’t completely clear what size these displays are from the image, but the source says they are for the 5.4-inch model, the smallest out of the four sizes rumored to be released in September.

The iPhone 12 lineup is expected to be comprised of one 5.4-inch model, two 6.1-inch models, and one 6.7-inch model. The 5.4-inch and one of the 6.1-inch devices will be for the entry-level iPhone 12, whereas the second 6.1-inch device and larger 6.7-inch model will be for the high-end iPhone 12 Pro Max.

All four of this year’s new models are expected to offer 5G cellular connectivity, with this set to be one of the biggest selling points for the new models, alongside an all-new design similar to the squared design of the iPad Pro.

The Apple Post has gone hands on with a model created based on leaked schematics and specifications for this year’s 6.7-inch “iPhone 12 Pro Max”, offering an early preview of the rumored new squared-edged design, larger display, and more.
