With rumors suggesting we could see a new iPad mini launching later this year, designer Parker Ortolani has shared a set of iPad mini sixth-generation concept images on Behance, imagining how Apple could make the device 20% smaller than the current version with the removal of the traditional thick bezels and Touch ID Home button.
Like the iPad Pro, Ortolani’s concept imagines Apple bringing the squared-edge design and rounded corner display to the iPad mini, making the device “more pocketable” by reducing the overall footprint with the removal of the bulky bezels found on the current iPad mini, adding Face ID to bring the product in line with its higher spec big brother – the iPad Pro.
Reports earlier this year said Apple was developing a new 8- to 9-inch iPad mini to launch before the end of 2020, supposedly alongside a new 10.8-inch iPad Air and new iMac. The mini was last updated in March 2019, with Apple quietly upgrading the device to run on the A12 Bionic chip and support Apple Pencil.
Ortolani’s concept also imagines a new line of Smart Folio cases for the iPad mini, similar to the range of accessories available for the iPad Pro.
Additionally, the designer has offered a comparison of what the new iPad mini would look like if Apple were to keep the same footprint as the current model and extend the display.
