iPhone 12 Pro to feature updated camera module with LiDAR sensor

An alleged leaked image showing an updated camera module on what is believed to be this year’s iPhone 12 Pro has supposedly been obtained from an internal build of iOS 14, showing a repositioned camera lens with a new LiDAR scanner.

In a tweet from @choco_bit, who is believed to be a former Apple Authorized Service Partner, and has offered leaks about Apple products in the past, the source claims the camera module shown in the image is for the “iPhone 12 Pro” and “iPhone 12 Pro Max” models.

The image shows a drawing, originally from Instagram page @conceptsiphone, which shows the familiar layout of the iPhone 11 Pro’s rear camera, but with the addition of a LiDAR scanner where Apple currently positions the rear microphone.

LiDAR was one of the flagship features of the recently released iPad Pro. The sensor provides time of fight-based depth mapping that enables the device to be better used for augmented reality applications.
