New MacBook Air models launching next week, according to tip-off

Apple will release updated MacBook Air models as soon as next week, according to a tipster.

The anonymous tip-off, sent to MacRumors on Friday, is said to be from the same source that correctly told that Apple would release new products through press releases over three consecutive days in March 2019, adding some credibility behind the claim.

Leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicated earlier this week that updated MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models would arrive during the second quarter of 2020, which starts on April 1, around two weeks after the anonymous source suggests.

No additional details about the upcoming MacBook Air were provided, beyond the rumored release date.

Should the rumors prove to be true, it is likely the new MacBook Air will be a relatively minor update, most likely featuring scissor keyboards, putting an end to Apple’s use of the controversial, problem-prone butterfly keyboard mechanism on its MacBook Air line – leaving the 13-inch MacBook Pro as the only machine continuing to use the butterfly mechanism.

Apple was rumored to be hosting an event to unveil a range of new hardware in March, although the coronavirus has forced Apple to cancel any unannounced plans it had. Here’s what we expect Apple to release in March 2020.
