Apple had hoped to send new “AirPods Pro Lite” into production in the second quarter of 2020, according to a report from DigiTimes which claims production has now been delayed, presumably due to the coronavirus and its effect on Apple’s supply chain.
We first heard mentioning of new “AirPods Pro Lite” in a report last week which claimed Apple was gearing up suppliers in both Taiwan and China to ready a range of upcoming hardware, including new iPad, Apple Watch, and iMac models.
No details have been shared about the so-called “AirPods Pro Lite” or what features they could bring compared to the original AirPods.
Production of the AirPods Pro Lite, an entry-level version of Apple’s AirPods Pro series, is unlikely to kick off in the second quarter as originally planned, according to industry sources.
Presumably the “AirPods Pro Lite” would be a third-generation update to the entry-level AirPods which were last updated in March alongside the release of an updated charging case.
The full report from DigiTimes is behind a paywall. We’ll update this story if any new information is shared once it becomes available.
