Leading up to the launch of Apple’s next-generation iPhone line, rumors and reports claimed the new hardware would include the ability to wirelessly charge another iPhone or Qi-enabled accessory, such as AirPods, by resting the device upon the repositioned Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
Hours before Apple’s event on Tuesday, industry leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo announced a revision to his previous predictions, saying that the new hardware wouldn’t include any two-way charging capabilities after all, with Apple going on to confirm Kuo’s revisions by failing to mention any bilateral charging capabilities during its event.
With iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro pre-orders now underway, leaker Sonny Dickson has reported that through “reliable sources” he has learnt that the iPhone 11 lineup includes the hardware to allow for two-way charging but the capabilities have been disabled through software, suggesting we may see an iOS update that will enable bilateral charging in the future.

Dickson’s claims will be put to test next week when the first wave of iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro pre-orders begin delivering to customers, and when teardowns dismantle the new handsets to see what’s included internally.
