Apple Pay launches in Hungary and Luxembourg

Apple has launched Apple Pay support to customers in Hungary and Luxembourg, allowing those banking with BGL BNP Paribas and OTP Bank to add their credit or debit card to the Wallet app and begin making in-store and online Apple Pay purchases.

The expansion follows after Apple released Apple Pay support in Iceland earlier this month.

According to mobile banking service Monese, Apple will continue a rapid Apple Pay expansion by adding Apple Pay support to 16 new markets “soon”, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Apple Pay was launched in 2014, alongside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, and the first ever look at the Apple Watch, and since then the service has gone strength to strength and has expanded across the world.

Over the last few months, we have seen Apple Pay expanding across Europe, proving Tim Cook’s statement that we can expect Apple Pay in 40 regions by the end of this year. The payment platform has expanded to Poland, Norway, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia and Austria over the last few months.
