Apple to launch AirPower next week according to DigiTimes sources

With us soon to be entering the final week of the month, Taiwanese news source DigiTimes claims Apple is preparing to launch AirPower as soon as “Late March” – in other words, next week.

The report comes shortly after a previously unseen image of an iPhone XS resting upon AirPower besides Apple’s newly released Wireless Charging Case for AirPods was discovered hidden on Apple.com.

Citing unnamed “industry sources” within Apple’s supply chain, DigiTimes claim AirPower will arrive in “Late March”, with second-quarter supplier revenue expected grow thanks to volume shipments of components for the wireless charging mat.

Lite-On Semiconductor, a maker of discrete and analog IC components, is expected to see its second-quarter revenues register a double-digit sequential growth as it will soon kick off volume shipments of GPP (glass passivated package) bridge rectifiers needed for Apple’s wireless charger AirPower, according to industry sources. – The sources said that Apple’s AirPower wireless charger for iPhones, Apple Watch and AirPods is set to be officially launched in late March, which will significantly drive up Lite-On’s revenues for the second quarter of 2019.

DigiTimes has a mixed track record when it comes to predicting the timing of Apple product releases, though a lot of evidence suggests we can expect an imminent launch of AirPower.

Code within the soon to be released iOS 12.2 software update shows “significant changes” to the wireless charging code that includes “code responsible for identifying that two devices are charging on the same mat”, and Apple has now secured full rights to the AirPower trademark.
