AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support coming to new LG Smart TVs

LG has announced that it plans to add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to its new 2019 TVs, allowing customers to play videos from iTunes and other video apps, music, photos and directly from their Apple devices to their LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R.

“Many of our customers may also happen to have Apple devices,” Senior Director of Home Entertainment Product Marketing Tim Alessi said during the company’s CES press conference. “LG has been working with Apple as well to create a streamlined user experience. So I’m very pleased to announce today that we’re adding Apple AirPlay to our 2019 TVs.”

The news comes shortly after Samsung announced a partnership with Apple yesterday that will see the company add AirPlay 2, iTunes Movies and the TV app on all 2019 Samsung Smart TVs and most 2018 Samsung Smart TVs through a software update later this year.

LG shared within a press release that the new AirPlay 2 and HomeKit enabled TV models will allow customers to control their LG TV using the Home app or by asking Siri.

Users can use their normal voice to get things done with Amazon Alexa, a new addition to LG’s AI TV lineup in 2019, as is support for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. With support for AirPlay 2, users can easily play videos from iTunes and other video apps, music, photos and directly from their Apple devices to their LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R. With Apple HomeKit support, customers will be able to control their LG TV using the Home app or by asking Siri.
