Apple Pay Cash appearing outside US in Messages on Apple Watch with watchOS 5

Since the release of watchOS 5 last week, a small number of Apple Watch users have discovered that within the Messages app on their watch an option is now appearing for Apple Pay Cash, hinting Apple may finally be preparing the service to expand out of the United States.

As shown in the Tweets below, users in Canada, Mexico, Germany, France and the United Kingdom have shared images of the new Apple Pay button found within the Messages app, with some reporting that the Wallet section of the Watch iOS app is also showing Apple Pay Cash.

Apple Pay Cash arrived within iOS 11.2 in the United States last December, and ever since Apple has kept the service exclusive within the country despite the continued rollout of the main Apple Pay contactless payment service. In February a handful of users in Spain, Brazil and Ireland reported seeing Apple Pay Cash within Messages on iOS, however the service never did officially launch.

Apple Pay Cash will allow person-to-person payments through the official Apple Pay iMessage app. When a user is sent funds via the service they will receive an Apple Pay Cash account which they can then use instantly to make a purchase using Apple Pay in stores or online, send as a payment to someone else, or transfer it from Apple Pay Cash to their bank account.
