Apple announces fix for iPhone 8 devices affected by intermittent in-call static coming soon

iPhone 8

Following multiple reports from iPhone 8 customers who are experiencing crackling sounds from their device’s earpiece when on a call, in a statement to The Verge, Apple has said they are working on a fix for the “small number” of users effected which will be rolled out in a future iOS 11 update.

The statement comes hours after Apple released iOS  11.0.1 to the public, a bug fixing update which addressed a number of issues with their latest software release.

Commenting on the reported a “static” and “crackling sound,” Apple said…

“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases.” – “Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”

To the frustration of iPhone 8 users, changing cellular settings like WiFi calling or Voice Over LTE does not seem to improve the problem, and resetting a device also does not appear to offer a reliable fix.

It’s not clear when Apple will release another update to fix the issue, as no specific time was provided by the company.
